County 911 Addresses
  • County 911 addresses are currently being assigned in the assessor's office by mapping staff. Most of the cities assign their own addresses. If you are in the county and need a 911 address to have your utilities or phone connected, or have new addressable construction, or are establishing any kind of new living accomodations that will require a mailbox or a phone connection, you will need to come to the courthouse to have a 911 address assigned.
  • Having an established 911 address is important for several reasons but primarily, in the event one has to call 911 dispatch from their home phone, dispatch will already know where to send emergency responders. So be sure to properly post the address at the intersection of the driveway and public roadway, on the structure, and of course on the mailbox.
  • Update pages or new additions to the 911 responder's book, 2006 Map Guide to Rural Addresses, can be downloaded at the assessor's Online Data page.
  • The county ordinance regarding the posting of address signs reads as follows:

    POSTING OF NUMBERS

Reflective numbers and letters indicating the official property
number designation shall be posted by the addressee or property owner.
The following is to be adhered to regarding posting of the addresses:

         1. White reflective numbers and letters shall be three (3")
inches in height. These numbers shall be posted on a
highway grade signboard measuring six (6") inches
horizontally by eighteen (18") inches vertically with the
background color of red on both faces. The numbers shall
be positioned on both faces of the sign with the thousand
numerals being placed side by side (horizontally) at the
top and the hundred numerals positioned vertically down
              the sign.

         2. The number sign shall be posted at the residence and/or
business entrance(s) driveway(s) in such a position and
in such proximity as to indicate how emergency responders
may gain access to the residence and/or business. The
sign shall be posted not less than twenty-four (24")
inches from the ground and so that the numbered surfaces
of the sign will face approaching emergency responders.

         3. In the event that two or more residences and/or
businesses are located on a driveway, lane, street or
other described thoroughfare that is not identified and
marked as a private drive or other official road by the
Phelps County Commission, an agency of the State of
Missouri, or other Federal authority, the owner and/or
occupant(s) shall post an approved address sign for each
such residence and/or business at the point where that
driveway, lane, street or other described thoroughfare
intersects with an officially marked roadway. A second
identical approved address sign shall then be posted, in
accordance with paragraphs 1 and 2 above, at the entrance
driveway lane or other vehicle access entry-way to each
such residence and/or business where it intersects with
that unidentified driveway, lane, street or other
              described thoroughfare.
