Instructions on how to use this page.

There are two ways to use this page:

First, by navigating in the image below to the tax map of the county you are looking for, and then using the mouse to click on that part of the image. The index map has to be very large in order to preserve the viewability of the jpg aerial image. The index file is 5400 pixels wide and 7200 pixels tall and 1,645KB in size. Using the scroll bars to navigate east-west, or north-south, works well. The tax map jpg files are approximately 3600 pixels by 3600 pixels and are all around 1000KB in size.

Or secondly, if you already know the tax map number you are looking for, there is a list of links for each tax map following the interactive image. Clicking on the text link for a given tax assessment map allows you to view, print, or download.

The tax map number formats:

For a 400' scale map: 71-99-9.9

For a 200' scale map: 71-99-9.9-99

For a 100' scale map: 71-99-9.9-99-999

The tax map parcel number, 71-99-9.9-99-999-999-999.99, provides a unique parcel number for every parcel located within the county. Each number place holder and its position is significant. This is explained in a table at the end of this page.

The jpeg (.jpg) map files found on this site are freely available to internet users and may be viewed, downloaded, saved and/or printed by the user. The use of these map files are at your own risk. We assume no liability in consequences that may arise from the use of, downloading of, saving of, or printing of these maps. They have been made available as a courtesy to individuals who find them useful in their work or to satisfy curious natures.

These maps do not contain high resolution photography due to file size limitations and have been created to be 24 inch by 24 inch tax map images.

Each tax map has a 'date printed' in the map title/legend area and can be found in the left-most part of the title underneath the words 'Ownership Map Phelps County, Missouri'. The parcel line drawings should represent the recorded deeds through the end of the month of December for the year prior to the print date.

Internet users who do not want to take the time to download individual jpg map files may purchase a CDROM containing a copy of all the jpg map files found here.

For higher resolution photography prints or more current parcel boundary map work, printed tax map files may be purchased from the Phelps County Assessor's office for a fee. All map requests must be prepaid (including postage). Please contact our office at 573.458.6135 or email mapping at phelpscounty dot org to make arrangements for prepaid maps. Please note at this time our office does not have the ability to accept payment by credit card.

Need help printing?

Print Screen or Screen Capture programs. There are many software options out there that can be installed on a computer to capture a screen display or portion of a screen display which then can be printed.

Photo Editing software. Another method of capturing a portion of a tax map image for printing involves downloading the tax map to your computer, opening it for editing in your favorite photo suite, and cropping the image to the specific area to be printed.

Third party softwares such as Alfred Bolliger's PrintKey-Pro are available as a 30 day full-feature trial version. If you have Windows XP or earlier you can try to run Printkey 2000 which was licensed for free use. However, it is a product that is no longer supported. The file is in .zip format and will require unzipping or extracting prior to installing.

Web sites such as www.tucows.com and CNet's www.download.com can be searched for freeware or shareware print screen programs. Also, most of the online computer magazines will feature reviews of Print Screen or Screen Capture software that is available for download and/or purchase.

71, identifies the County Number or county the parcel is found in. In this case, 71 represents Phelps County. Each county in Missouri has a different number, ensuring uniqueness in map parcel numbers for every parcel in the entire state.

11, identifies the county map Township Number represented which indicates the Government Survey System, or rectangular survey, for a Township. A township is bounded by a pair of parallel latitudes and a pair of longitudal meridians. The Township Number refers to the Township-Range found in every metes and bounds description. Normally a Township is six miles square, so typically there are thirty-six one mile square divisions within a Township called Sections.

A decimal pointed area number such as 4.2 indicates that that the township area represented is larger than four square miles.

33, identifies the map Section Number a parcel is found in. Since there are thirty-six sections per Township, the Section numbers range from 1 to 36. The Section number will be identified in every metes and bounds description. Sections are numbered from left to right beginning in the upper right hand corner of a Township, then right to left, then left to right, and so on. A section is normally 640 acres.

444, identifies the map Quarter Section Number the parcel is found in. For 400' and 200' scale maps, the Quarter Section Number will be zeros. A quarter is normally 160 acres and a quarter-quarter is normally 40 acres.

001 represents the Northeast Quarter

002 represents the Northwest Quarter

003 represents the Southwest Quarter

004 represents the Southeast Quarter

A decimal pointed Quarter Section Number indicates that two maps are required to cover the area represented by that Quarter.

555, identifies the map Block Number the parcel is found in. For 400' and 200' scale maps, the Block Number will be zeros. In Phelps county the Block Number ranges from 001 to 999 depending on the number of noncontiguous land areas found on a given map. Usually these areas are separated by roadways on all sides or the map's boundary lines.

666.66, identifies the map Parcel Number or individual tract number. In Phelps County, these range from 001.00 to 999.99 and are unique to each individual Section on 200' and 400' maps and to each Section and Block Number combination on 50' or 100' maps.
