Prospective Bride and Groom must appear together before the Recorder or her Deputy to make application.
The State of Missouri only recognizes marriages between a man and a woman.
A $51.00 cash payment is required when the application for the marriage license is completed.
For each parental consent, an additional fee of $1.00 is charged.
Proof of identification, social security number and age must be presented at time of application.
A valid driver’s license with social security number or card is sufficient. Proof of social security
number is required at the time of application. A social security card or other valid document will be accepted.
The social security number shall be a closed record and any such number appearing on a public record shall
be exempted from examination and copying pursuant to Section 610.024, RSMo.
Previously married applicants must provide the full date (mo/day/year) their last marriage ended. If the
bride’s maiden name was restored, the marriage dissolution showing this change will need to be brought in,
but only if their name has not been changed on their id.
Both parties must be at least 18 years of age to apply. Those wishing to apply who are under 18 and
over 14 must have custodial parental consent in person, a birth certificate, and if parents are divorced the
divorce judgment showing custodial parent’s name. Those under the age of fifteen (15) may not apply
or obtain a marriage license without a court order. Blood relatives, up to and including first cousins, MAY NOT
marry under the laws of the State of Missouri.
The application may remain on file up to six months, but the license must be picked up by one of the
parties prior to the ceremony. For example, an application may be made in May and picked up the next month
for a June wedding.
The license is valid for 30 days from the issue date and may only be used in the Sate of Missouri. The
license MUST BE returned used or unused to the county of issuance. If your license is not used and is lost
or destroyed, the parties must return to the recorder’s office to sign an affidavit.
The person performing the ceremony is required by law to have the marriage license at the ceremony.
The license must be returned within 15 (fifteen) days after the ceremony is performed. It is
suggested you contact the officiating officer to confirm the license has been returned to the Recorder’s office.
We will contact you to pick up your recorded license as soon as we receive it. You can then take the recorded
license to the offices of Social Security Administration and the Department of Revenue to change your name.
There is no longer a 3 day waiting period nor do you need a blood test.
A plain copy of the marriage license is $1.00. A certified copy of the marriage license is $9.00.
